For every one of us there are conversations we always remember. They are the conversations that change our life.
Those conversations are not really like the ordinary kind of conversation we all know. They don’t have anything to do with exchanging news or opinions or anything like that. They are strange and volatile and changeful—passionate and reasonable at the same time. Our life force is bound up in and expressed through them. They are like the prayers we pray in desperation. Or like the thoughts that wake us in the middle of the night. They are like the closing scenes in tragic dramas. They mark the epochs of our life.
